St. Paul Lutheran Church says goodbye to loose Shingles

St. Paul Lutheran Church says goodbye to loose Shingles

Owning a building that requires maintenance is nothing new, but when the same issue keeps needing to be addressed Church2something needs to be done to solve the problem. St. Paul Lutheran Church on lester road in valley city Ohio had a problem with there asphalt shingles blowing loose. Because of where the church building is located, there is high wind in the area, and although the asphalt shingles were only 12 years old, they were not holding up to the storms.

As the search began for a new roofing material that would last, the option of a metal roof became the clear solution, the only question was what type of metal roof to install. Because of the size of the project using a roofing panel with exposed fasteners was not a option, but when a metal shingle was suggested it was decided to look for options that were available in a metal shingle. The Weaver Metal Shingles were chosen because of the Quadro-Lock design, built in nail flange and low price point compared to other shingle options.Weaver Shingles Solid Charcoal Gray -Weaver Shingles Charcoal Gray Solid -

Because the church building had been expanded several times, there were some challenges with the installation of the Weaver Shingles, but the installers from Quick Quality Construction did a great job in removing the existing asphalt, and applying synthetic underlayments before installing the Weaver Shingles. The installation went very well and the finished project looks amazing!! Thanks to everyone that was involved in making the project go smoothly, and Congratulations on a maintenance free metal roof that Will Last a Lifetime!

Weaver Metal Shingles provide new life to Wooster Home

Weaver Metal Shingles provide new life to Wooster HomeHome1

Rory and Natalie Richardson were aware that the roof on their home needed replacement for quite some time, however the process of deciding on the roofing product, was not something that could be done quickly. The Richardson’s had purchased the 1920’s home several years ago, and at that time Rory know that he wanted to install a metal roof on the home, he did however not want to install something that would make the home look like a barn, or commercial building. After researching for some time it was decided that a metal shingle would be something that would have the life of metal, but would have a different look than what they were seeing around other parts of town.

Home3After coming to the Weaver Metals showroom in Holmesville Ohio and seeing the finished product first hand, they were impressed with the look, ease of installation, and the weather tightness of the Weaver Metal Shingles. After some discussion Slate Gray was the color that was chosen and the project was underway. A local contractor that was based in Wooster Ohio provided the installation, and although he had not installed a product like this before, after a few phone conversations with the Weaver Metal staff he was able to install it with ease. The Richardson’s also had some Foundry Split Shakes #278 installed on the dormers of the home that added the finishing touch.Home4

This 1920’s home tucked in among the trees in Wooster now has a new lease on life and will not need the roof replaced for many many years. The Kynar paint that is applied to the Weaver Shingles has a 35 year  warranty that does not pro-rate and is transferable to the next homeowner and the Quadro-Loc design of the shingles insures that this roof will stay water and wind proof for even longer. It was a pleasure to work with Rory and Natalie Richardson and congratulations on your beautiful home.Home5

Veteran replaces roof on 70 yr old home with metal

It is always a privilege to meet someone that has experienced a lot in life, and to hear their life story. We had the chance last week to sit down with Edward Ray from Parma OH to discuss his life experiences and also find out about his recent shingle replacement.004

Edward Ray grew up in Kentucky in a small farm in the 1940’s and graduated high school in 1951. Because of the draft that was active at that time, Ed decided to join the Air Force.  He choose to join the Air Force because he had 3 uncles that had served in World War 2 and he had been intrigued with their story’s. Ed was transferred several times but ended up being stationed in Washington during the time that President Dwight D. Eisenhower was inaugurated and was privileged to take a part in the inauguration parade.

One interesting story that he shared with me was that at the age of 19, he was on patrol duty at Andrews Air Force Base one night, when he got the call to report to the hanger as President Eisenhower was arriving and needed help transferring luggage. He reported to the hanger and after he was finished transferring the luggage, Eisenhower requested that Ed would 002be assigned to stay with him for the rest of the evening, in case there would be additional help needed. As they drove to the next location, Eisenhower asked Ed what his background was, and where he was from. As the evening went on, Eisenhower grew to like Ed and connected with him almost like a son. From that day on whenever Eisenhower would be landing at Andrews Air Force Base, he would call ahead and request that airman Ed would be the one that would assist him.

Ed heard about the Weaver Metal Shingles from a close 003friend and bowling buddy. What impressed him was the warranty, and the shingle look of the product. ” I have lived in this home for over 60 years” Ed said, ” and the next homeowners will never have to worry about their roof again”.

Yoder Family Roofing was the installer of the Weaver Shingles, and they did a fabulous job. They took great care to insure that everything was done correctly, and took great pride in the small details. You can visit their website at-http://yoderfamilyroofing.com for more information about the services that they provide.

Ed is now involved with Veteran services in the area, and has personal responsibility and involvement with over 60 families.

89 Homes brings life to a Home in Wooster

89 Homes brings life to a Home in Wooster

Home improvement projects are very easy to push off, and often they don’t get accomplished until an emergency arises.

Edit 4

Edward Becker, who lives in Wooster Oh decided that he was not going to prolong the process any more. Ed approached 89 Homes in Jeromesville Oh, concerning some improvements that he wanted to make to his home. He wanted to add a porch to the home, and also tear off the old asphalt shingles and install a metal roof. After he looked at all the options available, he decided on a Weaver Metal Shingle because of their appearance and longevity. 89 Homes did a great job in covering all the bases of the project, and really handled everything in a professional way.

As we were taking pictures I commented on the starburst that was installed in the front gable. ” I told 89 Homes that I wanted to have a starburst somewhere” Ed said. ” I really was not sure how they would do it, but i really like how it turned out”.

Edit 2As we were standing there and looking at the roof, it struck me again how that the Weaver Metal Shingles really did not look like a metal roof. ” I really like it ” Ed said, it just blends in so nice and looks great. I asked the neighbor when he will be replacing his roof with a metal roof, ” Its just a matter of time” he said, once my shingles wear out, I am going to be looking at all my options.Edit 1

Congratulation again to Edward Becker on his home improvement project, and also to 89 Homes on the great design and work. It was easy to see that there was a lot of thought and effort put into the design and color, and it looks great.

Unexpected Damages, caused by a Leaking Roof

Unexpected Damages, caused by a Leaking Roof

There are many different household problems that can be procrastinated. However, a roof leak repair should take the highest priority on your list of home maintenance issues. Roofing leaks can develop for a variety of reasons: improper roof installation, wind or storm damage, and lack of maintenance. Keep in mind that most asphalt roofs are only meant to last 15 to 20 years so it could simply be time to replace your roof. It is recommended that a roof be inspected every three years. If this is not done, long-term damage from a leaky roof might go unnoticed, leading to further property deterioration.

Water DiscolorationWater-Bad-stains

The most minimal damage over the long term is discoloration of the roofing underlayment, the rafters, beams and possibly the
ceiling and the walls. As the water seeps past the damaged roofing area, it carries tannins and other chemical residue. These deposits discolor the wood a darker shade and might look like reddish rust or cola-colored stains on white drywall ceilings or walls. If the leak starts small it can slowly spread, and go undetected for years.

Mold and Mildew

In places where leaking water becomes trapped in a confined space, for example, under floors or between covered wall studs, the humidity won’t dissipate and mold or mildew growth may occur. Mold and mildew may cause respiratory distress and it also has the potential to weaken the framework in the area of the leak. Black or dark patches that resemble a stain are the first signs of mold or mildew infestation, and anytime these stains are found, the cause must be located

 Fire hazard from water damage

If your electrical wiring is present in an attic or ceiling, a leaky roof could pose a fire threat from shorted wires. This can be a deadly effect of a leaking roof, and could lead to the loss of the entire home, by cause of fire.

Rotting of Structural Frameworkimg_0683

The most obvious consequence of a leaking roof is the damaged rafters, ceiling joists, wall framing and even fascia boards and exterior trim can become victims of water intrusion. Chronic roof leaks lead to wood deterioration and weakened, rotten roof framing causes serious problems that require assistance from a qualified professional. You can also face expensive wood framing repairs if water leaks down into ceiling joists and walls.

All of these issues can be avoided by timely inspections. If you have any reason to believe that you might have a problem with your roof, do yourself a favor and have it checked out by a professional.

Metal Shingles, What is the True Cost

Metal Shingles, What is the True Cost

What is the true cost of Metal Shingles, and how does it compare to asphalt shingles? That is a question that I hope to clarify. When it comes to making a major purchase, the tendency is to only base our purchase decision on the price of the item. Sometimes this can be OK, but often it leads to making a decision that will cost us far more in the future.

The average cost of replacing your roof with a dimensional asphalt shingle is around $260.00 per square. This would equate to $7,800.00 for the average ranch home. The frustrating part is knowing that in 20-25 years those very shingles will end up in a landfill.  In a 60 year span this home will need to have the roofing replaced 3 times. This could very easily reach a total of $25,000.00.

The average cost of installing a Weaver Metal Shingle roof will be around $500.00 per square. This equates to $15,000.00 for the average ranch home. This Weaver Metal Shingle roof will have no problem in lasting 60 years, and will do so for the total cost of the original purchase.   ( $15,000.00 )wm-lndscphous

Another factor to consider is the energy saving of a energy star metal in comparison to asphalt shingles. This fact alone would provide a substantial savings over a 60 year period. Some recent study’s have shown a average potential savings of $300.00 per year, equaling $18,000.00 in 60 years. An additional fact to consider is the increase of value that your home will have with a Weaver Metal Roof. If you ever sell your home, the buyer will have peace of mind knowing that the roofing is the last thing that he needs to be concerned about.

In the 60 year example that we laid out, here is the true total Cost of the two roofing systems

Asphalt Roofing–$25,000.00

Metal Roofing–$ -3,000.00 ( a Total Savings of $28,000.00 )

What is the True Cost of Metal Shingles?  You can’t afford NOT to buy a Weaver Metal Shingle Roof.

Do Metal Shingles Cost more than Asphalt Shingles?

Do Metal Shingles Cost more than Asphalt Shingles?

Have you ever asked the question “Do Metal Shingles really Cost more than Asphalt Shingles?” If so, your first thought might have been that they do cost more than asphalt, if that is your belief than you are mistaken. Metal Shingles actually cost LESS that asphalt, lets find out how together.

The first step is to understand the difference between COST and PRICE. Cost is the total amount of capital that is invested throughout the life of the product. Price is the initial purchase price of the product. Lets look at an example….

Bill purchases a car built by Cars-R-Us for the price of $3,000.00, He had looked at a similar vehicle at a lot across town that was manufactured by Built-Right Automobiles. However the price for that similar sized car was $5,000.00. There was no doubt in Bill’s mind that the Cars-R-Us vehicle costs less that the one by Built- Right Automobiles.

In the first year that Bill had the car, the right tire flew off and the front door refused to open, just a small issue, he thought, Beater_Nissanso he had that repaired for $500.00.  The following year, while going down a hill at 60 MPH, his brakes froze up and he ended up in Mrs. Pickles yard after running over her Rhododendron bush, and hitting the side of her house. It was then that he discovered that his insurance policy by Cut-Rate Insurance Co. did not cover incidences that occur on Fridays. The total bill for all the damages reached $2,500.00. Within 6 months of having the car repaired, the piston on the engine blew apart while idling at a gas station, and caused unrepairable damage to the car. It had to be towed to the junk yard. The worst part about the engine failure, was that at that very moment, Mr. Tootles was walking past the car, He suffered major hearing loss, and had to purchase a new pair of pants, as brown streaks on khaki pants are not appealing. Bill ended up putting 50,000 miles on the car.

Bill had a conversation later on with his friend Jim who had purchased a car from Built-Right Automobiles, and asked Jim about his experience with his car.  Jim had driven the car for 10 years, and had put over 200,000 miles on it. He did need to change the left wheel bearing at 80,000 miles, but the bearing was covered under the Built-Right Automobiles warranty, so there was no cost to him. Lets look at the final numbers…

Built-Right Automobiles
Purchase Price–$5,000.00
Bearing Replacement–$0.00
200,000 Miles = $.03 per mile Cost

Cars-R-Us
Purchase Price–$3,000.00
Door and Tire Repair–$500.00
Mrs. Pickles Repair–$2,500.00
Mr. Tootles new pants = Priceless
50,000 miles = $.12 per mile Cost

We can easily see that even though the Price for  the Car from Built Right Automobiles was more, the actual Cost is less. The same principle goes for when we compare Metal Roofing to a Asphalt shingles. We will be posting a article later with the broken down costs so that we all can see the true COST of Metal Shingles. Stay Tuned…..

Immaculate Heart of Mary Chapel Replaces School Roof

Located several miles north of Akron Canton airport on a quiet street is the Immaculate Heart of Mary Chapel. The Catholic chapel is lead by Leo Carley and has been a foundational part of the community for many years. They also operate a school on theYUN00010 premises and the roofing on the school building had been steadily deteriorating for many years. The roofing on the chapel building had been replaced with a metal shingle a number of years ago, and they knew that they wanted something similar. The problem with the metal shingles on the chapel roof is that they were difficult to install and were not very cost effective.

Liberty Roofing and Construction was tasked with the challenge of locating a metal shingle that was not only beautiful and would last a lifetime, but also one that was cost effective. Frank  Burkhart, the owner of Liberty Roofing contacted Weaver Metals and was impressed with the ease of the install and the Quality of the Weaver Metal Shingle. After discussing all the available options, it was decided to manufacture the Weaver Metal Shingles without the embossed wood grain which gives the shingles more of a Slate look.YUN00002

The installation went very well and Liberty Roofing did a great job and finished in record time. In discussing the overall job with Frank after the completion of the project, he once again mentioned how much easier the process is with the Weaver Metal Shingles in comparison to other metal shingles that he has had experience with.  Give Liberty Roofing a call for a free estimate, or visit their website at http://www.libertyroofingohio.com/

John and Linda Chupp say Goodbye to loose Shingles

John and Linda Chupp say Goodbye to loose Shingles

Weaver Metals would like to congratulate John and Linda Chupp on the installation of their new roofing by Weaver Metals. The Premium Metal Shingles were installed by Holmes Premier Construction which are located in the Berlin area. Holmes Premier did a great job said John Chupp, they installed the roof and also did some other work, like installing a new deck and really did a great job all the way around.yun00179

I asked John what he does for his occupation, and he informed me that among other things he hauls local made furniture long distance, and Linda is a head cook for the East Holmes School District. “I spend a lot of time on the road” John said, “and it really gives me a peace of mind to know that the roof on my home is something that I dont need to worry about. I was constantly needing to climb up on the roof and use caulking to seal loose asphalt shingles. Sometimes I would find broken shingles that had come loose and blown off the roof and ended up in the yard, I would then need to take caulking and try to get the broken shingles to adhere to the roof”. It really was a constant battle to keep shingles on the roof with where the home is located.

I asked John what he thought about the cost of the Weaver Metal Shingles in comparison to Asphalt Shingles, “I really did not think that it was that bad if you compare the lifespans of the two products. We are planning to stay in this house for a long time, and to know that this is the last roof that I will need to buy is really a great feeling”. John also told me that he also was glad that he could tell people that the Metal Shingles and also the installers were from the local area, “I really like  to use local business’s whenever I can, It just feels good to be supporting the local area business’s.yun00197

Weaver Metals enjoyed working with John and Linda and also Holmes Premier Construction and wish them both the best in the future. You can find more information about Holmes Premier Construction at their website http://coolroof-solutions.com
